Indoor residual spraying
Indoor residual spraying activities began in 2001 and are now being conducted in 36 districts in Central Province, Copperbelt Province, Lusaka Province, North-Western Province, and Southern Province. The spray districts targeted during the 2007-2008 spray season are shown in the figure below. IRS is targeted toward urban and peri-urban areas within these districts, accounting for nearly 700,000 households and 3.2 million people protected.
Zambia has already exceeded its goal of reaching 85 percent coverage with IRS in targeted urban and peri-urban areas in the initial 15 targeted districts.

Spray activities are coordinated by districts and are conducted annually prior to the malaria transmission season, usually from October to December.
